Hello fellow Grangers! This is Rollie, the Legislative Intern from the OHK Grange. As a political fanatic, the opportunity to be in Washington D.C. to represent the Grange on Capitol Hill is a dream come true. This is my first time here in this historical and buzzing city and I know it won’t be my last. As a group we have a full itinerary of meetings and activities, some for fun and some as part of our mission to advocate for the policies that our Grangers care most about.
While the first two days we were able to explore D.C. and Arlington, tomorrow will be kicked off by briefings at the National Grange Building. The topics that will be covered are: the new Farm Bill, rural broadband access, the Lifeline program to offer cell phone services to low income individuals, and also other health care issues. In the next few days we have meetings at our Minnesota legislators’ offices including: Keith Ellison, Collin Peterson, Tina Smith, and Amy Klobuchar, with the potential, depending on availability, to meet with Tim Walz, Betty McCollum, and Erik Paulsen. I look forward to suiting up and venturing around the Hill with Grangers I have been able to become closer to through the first couple days of this politically engaging Granger experience.
